ATLANTA, GA – TBE Group, a subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination and right-of-way services consulting and engineering firm, received the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) prestigious 2007 Excellence in Utility Relocation and Accommodation Award. The award recognized TBE’s participation in the development of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) new training program, “Avoiding Utility Project Impacts.” TBE worked with GDOT to develop and conduct the training program. Mark Pitchford, Vice President and Southern Region Manager, accepted the award on behalf of TBE’s Atlanta office.
The FHWA developed the biennial awards program to honor those who excel in improving utility relocation and accommodation practices. The award was presented at the 2007 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Right of Way and Utilities Subcommittee Conference in Orlando, Florida, on April 30, 2007.
The award, presented for the category of Leadership/Projects Under $100 Million, recognized GDOT and TBE for developing and conducting the new training program, which provides designers and project managers with the tools to reduce project delays by identifying and resolving utility conflicts early in the planning and design processes. TBE was also honored with FHWA Awards of Excellence for work performed on projects in Florida and Maryland.
“We are honored to be recognized for our participation on this outstanding project,” said Nick Zembillas, TBE Senior Vice President and Principal. “TBE is a recognized leader in subsurface utility engineering, and we understand the need to reduce costly utility conflicts on construction projects. We hope that with this important FHWA recognition, GDOT’s training program can become a model for other states.”
