Jeff Sowers Appointed to TRB Utilities Committee

LANSING, MI – Director Jeff A. Sowers, PE, of TBE Group, a subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination and right-of-way services consulting and engineering firm,, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB’s) Utilities Committee. Sowers serves as Michigan and Indiana Business Unit Manager for the firm’s Utilities Division.

TRB is one of six major divisions of the National Research Council, which serves as an independent adviser to the federal government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities. TRB’s mission is to promote transportation innovation and progress through research, and it fulfills its mission, in part, through the work of its standing committees and task forces addressing all modes and aspects of transportation.

“TBE is honored that the Transportation Research Board has selected Jeff Sowers to serve on its Utilities Committee,” said TBE Vice President and Northern Region Manager Robert L. Clemens. “Jeff continues to demonstrate his utilities knowledge and expertise. He has directed TBE’s SUE and utility coordination work on major transportation projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation, and he played a key role in the development of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s updated Utility Manual and Utility Accommodation Policy, a project which earned an Award of Excellence from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in 2006. His role on the TRB Utilities Committee will enhance the relationship between transportation systems and utilities.”

Sowers has worked for TBE since 1999. A professional engineer (PE), Sowers received his BS degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University, and he is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
