"Sustainable Design" or "Green Engineering" includes a planned engineering design approach that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainable Design is more than a passing fad. It is a fundamental part of engineering design in today’s society. In fact, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has incorporated Sustainable Design goals in their Fundamental Cannons. Sustainable Design involves a careful balance between three driving factors.
