Sustainable Design & Green Engineering
"Sustainable Design" or "Green Engineering" includes a planned engineering design approach that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainable Design is more than a passing fad. It is a fundamental part of engineering design in today’s society. In fact, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has incorporated Sustainable Design goals in their Fundamental Cannons. TBE is equally committed to Sustainable Design as demonstrated in our corporate Vision and Mission Statements.

Sustainable Design involves a careful balance between three driving factors.

Economics - balancing today’s construction costs with operational and social costs.

Society - designing projects that do not compromise the integrity of surrounding areas or those of future generations.

Environment - working within natural systems instead of against them by choosing materials and design approaches to protect the environment.

TBE works closely with Architects who incorporate sustainable design into building components, including LEED certified projects. Examples of Sustainable Design in site, landscape and infrastructure design provided by TBE include:

dotBrownfield Redevelopment
dotStormwater Quality Enhancements
dotErosion Control Features
dotReclaimed Water
dotNative Vegatation
dotOpen Space Design
dotTree Preservation
dotLinear Parks
dotPervious Parking Surfaces
dotPedestrian and Bicycle Features
dotMulti-modal Transportation
dotUnderground Utilities
dotRecycled Landscape Mulches
dotSmaller Development Footprints
dotConservation Areas
dotWild-life Corridors
dotDry Stormwater Areas as Amenities
dotPassive Parks
dotLess Utility Impacts
dotEducational Components
dotLess Site Disturbance
dotNatural Lighting
dotLight Pollution Avoidance
dotSite Feature Optimization
dotInnovative Water/Wastewater Treatment
dotConsideration of Light Orientation

Benefits of Sustainable Design include:
dotLower Life Cycle Costs (irrigation, power, maintenance, etc)
dotRestoration and Protection of the Environment
dotBetter Working Environments for Occupants
dotPollution Reduction
dotCreation of Drought Tolerant Landscaping
dotReduction of Waste Material and Disposal Costs
